Despite digitalization, printed catalogs and magazines still make a strong impression, especially in showrooms, trade fairs, and corporate presentations. But missing a few technical details before printing can seriously affect the final quality.
Color profile: CMYK, not RGB
A red that looks vibrant on screen can turn dull when converted to CMYK. Preparing files in the CMYK color profile from the start avoids surprises after printing.
Don't forget the bleed margin
Images that extend to the page edge need at least a 3mm bleed margin; otherwise thin white strips can appear at the edge after trimming.
Paper weight changes perception
Thin, cheap-feeling paper creates a "cheap" perception no matter how good the content is. Higher weight paper should be chosen for prestige documents like product catalogs.
Low resolution ruins the print
A 72 DPI image prepared for screens will look pixelated or blurry in print. Print files should be prepared at a minimum of 300 DPI.
Always request a proof before full printing
Requesting a single digital or press proof before committing to a large print run eliminates the risk of the whole batch coming out wrong.
These details take 10 minutes to check before printing but prevent costly mistakes afterward.
